2001 Honda shadow (motorcyle).....having trouble changing the coolant....help??!!??

There appears to be an air bubble in the coolant system preventing it from being topped off. Tried running it, and %26quot;blipping%26quot; the throttle, but I can't get the bubbles out. How else can I get the bubbles out??? Please only serious answers. Thanks! =D2001 Honda shadow (motorcyle).....having trouble changing the coolant....help??!!??Hold the bike level (as if you were sitting on it).

While the engine is cold, remove the radiator cap and top it up with coolant.

Leave the radiator cap off.

Start the bike and let it run.

As the coolant circulates, any air pockets will eventually make it to the radiator cap opening and escape.2001 Honda shadow (motorcyle).....having trouble changing the coolant....help??!!??The guy that hosts these pages is an aircraft mechanic that does his own work.

If his advice doesn't do it you probably don't have a problem.

So a gallon of coolant plus a 1 1/4 quarts coolant.

But to be honest, most mechanics are going to put in a gallon and fill the rest with water...

How do I flush my engine coolant?

I have a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer. I would like to flush and change out the coolant myself to save money. Is anyone familiar with how to perform this task on a Mountaineer? How do I flush my engine coolant?if you go to most auto part stores you can buy a adapter to fasten a garden hose to or do as i did and remove the radiator cap and open the drain on the bottom of the radiator. just put the hose in the radiator fill hole and turn the water on. you would want the car to be running to do this as the thermostat will open and close as it should and the water pump will circulate the fresh water through the entire engine i would let it run like this for 30 minutes to an hour. when the fluid coming out is clerar you can shut down the car remove the hose and add the proper mixture of coolant. dont just put water cause so called anti freeze is actually oily if you havent noticed. pure water will wind up giving you premature wear on the water pump. a store bought coolant that is premixed is the best way to goHow do I flush my engine coolant?Go to your local parts house (Autozone, Kragen, Pep Boys, whatever) and get a Prestone Flush-n-fill kit. Follow the directions supplied with the kit. Very easy and quick. How do I flush my engine coolant?Obtain a radiator flush kit from most parts stores.Splice it into your heater hose (it comes with clamps and stays on permanently)Undo bottom radiator hose, attatch garden hose to flush kit tee.Follow directions on the flush, cleaner and rust inhibitor you select to use. Both Prestone and Zerex market all you need and available anywhere. How do I flush my engine coolant?the best way is back flush it. in other words let the dirt and grime come out the top of the radiator.

How can I purge radiator in a chevy venture 2003?

I have been looking for a valve at the bottom of the radiator but did not find it, I would like to change anti coolant liquid I will appreciate your help. How can I purge radiator in a chevy venture 2003?if there is no valve at the bottom of the radiator, then you can always remove the lower radiator hose. This can be a little messy, but works well. After the antifreeze is out, reinstall the hose. When filling with the new antifreeze mix, make sure to let the coolant system %26quot;burp%26quot; out any air bubbles. This is done by running with the cap off of the radiator, once the thermostat opens, you will see the fluid level drop a lot. Top it off, put on the cap, run for another five minutes, shut off vehicle, and check fluid level again once it has cooled off.

Why will my radiator take only about 1 litre or so of coolant?

The shop that worked on my clutch said they would change the radiator coolant for me - only drained a bit out, just thought it was low. When they went to add more in, it would only take just over a liter.

What is going on and how is it fixed? Why will my radiator take only about 1 litre or so of coolant?YOU HAVE TO WARM UP THE ENGINE SO THE THERMOSTAT OPENS UP SO YOU CAN FILL THE ENGINE BLOCK AND HEAD(S) . IF YOU DON'T THE NEXT TIME YOU DRIVE IT ,IT WILL OVER HEAT AND MAYBE BURN UP , BLOW A HEAD GASKET , CRACK A HEAD OR BLOCK , OR ALL OF THE ABOVE . HEAT IT UP UNTIL YOU SEE THE COOLANT MOVING IN THE RADIATOR AND ADD MORE UNTIL IT'S FULL AND MOVING ------THIS MIGHT TAKE SEVERAL TIMES.Why will my radiator take only about 1 litre or so of coolant? There could be a few things going on here.

    1. The shop is trying to take you for money.

    2. There is a clog somewhere in the system.

    3. They did not compleatly drain the system. Make sure the coolant cap is off and just remove the bottom hose and you should be good to go.

If you want the collant changed I would take to and have it flushed. Why will my radiator take only about 1 litre or so of coolant?perhaps it's clogged?

    Engine Coolant?

i need to replace my car thermostat and decided to change the coolant at the same time and give tht system a good clean,

just need to know, how much coolant do i need to buy to re-fill the system...the owners manual and haynes manual dont say anything.......

i have a 1995 Astra does anyone know roughly what it is for this car or the average for all cars ?Engine Coolant?look in the capacities section of the haynes manual and macke sure you check it a few days after so it up to the topEngine Coolant?Fill until the overflow bottle reaches the line. After the coolant has been changed and the car has been running with the heat in the car blasting away for a few minutes, you'll probably need to top up the overflow bottle again. The most important part is to not overfill. Stay at the line.Engine Coolant?Just go get three gallons of it and do this. replace the thermostat and then leave the cap off and engine running as you fill it.

fit the cap on loose (half turn) and idle the engine. Once the level has dropped that means that the thermostat has opened and you need to top it off. you will have to do this a few times untill after the engine gets warm and opens that thermostat. then it is just a matter of topping it off.Engine Coolant?Depends, if you are only going to drain the radiator, replace the t-stat and refill the radiator then a gallon of 100% antifreeze will do. If you plan on doing a completed flush buy 2 gallons of 100% antifreeze. In the end you want a 50/50 mix, when you by the anitfreeze get a tester also so you can check the mixture.Engine Coolant?Coolant only comes in gallon jugs. about a fifty/fifty ratio is good or you can purchase a hydrometer at the parts store for like about $2 it's usually a red bulb on top with a glass tube with differant colored balls in side of it and a small red hose attached. It will tell you how much cooling protection you have and you can make up your own mindEngine Coolant?I run almost straight antifreeze. I always buy distilled water to mix.Engine Coolant?if you have a 4 or 6 cyl. engine, 2 gallons will definately be enough because you are going to mix it 50/50 with water to make 4 gallons (you will probably only need 3 gallons but better to have extra). if you are buying premix then I would buy 3.Engine Coolant? Most vehicles require about 2 gallons, unless the engine block is drained. Get 2 gallons of 50/50 antifreeze/water mix from your dealer and just pour it in.

Never run straight antifreeze, because water is required to activate the lubricating and anti-corrosion properties.

How to change hoses because of coolant leak on a 93 acura?

i really don't want to take it to a garage because it seems like it might be an easy fix, just replace the hoses. however, the metal straps holding the hoses are difficult to remove, and i also want to make sure they are fastened tight enough on the replacements. is this a do-it-yourself or a good idea to take to the garage and fix for a hundred or so?How to change hoses because of coolant leak on a 93 acura? Some hose clamps are adjustable and some are kind of spring/tension loaded. If they are not the adjustable kind ( adjustable have a screw head on them) then just take a pair of needlenose pliers, squeeze the tabs, and move the clamp a few inches towards the center of the hose and that should do it. Either way, replace the clamps when you change the hose. It's not that difficult, maybe a little cramped though. Make sure the car has cooled off too.

Repair shop rip off or just a freakish coincidence?

Took 2001 jeep 6 cyl for oil chg. Car has been well cared for and has about 125K highway. Mech said coolant was brown and needed to be changed. Coolant had been changed at same shop less than a year ago. Set up apt to have a flush done in 3 days but the next day on the way to work, engine started running hotter than usual, turned around and dropped it off at shop to have it flushed now instead of waiting. Mech flushed sys and replaced the thermastat. Picked up the car and had to take it back again the next day as it was still running hot. Now claimed the heater motor was bad. Had that replaced. Drove the car home, less than 2 miles. The next morning there was a LARGE puddle of coolant under it. Took it back to shop and now supposedly its the water pump. Its supposedly got a pin hole leak, but the mech swears its just a coincidence and nothing he did while fixing the fan. Told him I did not believe him, it was not leaking at all before he fixed the heater fan, coolant level was normal and had been before he worked on it and it was not leaking the day I dropped it off to get the fan fixed, and only drove it less than 2 miles after it was fixed. Never saw ANY coolant on the driveway prior. Told him I didn't believe him that it was a coincidence and that I would be taking it elsewhere to get the repair done. He called back a few min later and is now going to replace the pump n/c. Sound fishey? When I get it back, is there anyway to tell if it was fixed correctly or if he has now screwed something else up on purpose? Just getting a bad vibe and wondering how to protect myself. Should I take it to someone after I get it back and have them check it out? Really thinking this is a case of small blond and female looking like an easy mark. Any thoughts?

BTW, here is the damage so far:

you have been OWNEDRepair shop rip off or just a freakish coincidence?wow you should have left earlierRepair shop rip off or just a freakish coincidence?wow. well some coincidence, and probably some ignorance too. the color of coolant is irrelevant - alcohol content is what matters and after only a year I doubt it really needs changing. it's brown because you have rust forming in your radiator (that is normal over time). that should be flushed with water when you have the coolant replaced; not just drained and fresh coolant added. $40 for that is OK. He replaced the thermostat probably thinking that is why you are overheating. and that is a good guess. the thermostat has a coil inside that opens up when the coolant gets hot; it regulates coolant flow. Heater motor shouldn't have anything to do with the car overheating. That is just for your comfort. Coolant heat is transferred to air using a fan blowing over coolant/heater radiator. You then get that heat inside the car. He may be talking about an auxiliary fan to aid in cooling the radiator (if it sometimes runs when the car is off, that's probably what it is). You are probably right on the water pump. Too coincidential. He must have disturbed the gasket seal or fractured the water pump. Water pumps are surprisingly brittle. Labor charges sound OK. I don't think you should have to pay for the water pump. If he balks at that, try to work something out in terms of price - 50% off. Also, call AutoZone and tell them the make/model of your car and get a price for a water pump before you go back in. $350 sounds high. Get all the old parts when you leave. If you came to me with this story, I'd want to see that water pump to determine if it's been damaged. A pinhole leak would be caused by rust not brute force (and probably unlikely). Lastly, don't go to this guy again. In essence, he's doing trial and error with new parts to locate the problem. That's fine with him and me, because you're the one paying for all those parts. Not right. So in short, he probably isn't trying to 'take you' (at total labor of only $55) but probably a better mechanic out there for you. Good luck.

Repair shop rip off or just a freakish coincidence? He is definitely either ripping you off or just a really bad mechanic. You need to find a reputable auto shop one that others you know have gone to and trust. Take your vehicle there and tell them what has happened and ask if they would be nice enough to take a quick look for you. He should not have had to replace your thermostat or heater motor, the heater motor has nothing to do with your coolant system. If you can find a good auto shop and explain they will more than likely feel bad enough for you to look for free and they can tell you the damage he may have done. Good luck and warn others.

Should i Keep the Dexacool coolant or change to the Green Coolant after having the intake gasket replaced?

I have a 98 lumina with 55,000 miles that had the green radiator fluid before it went into repairs for a leaking intake mainfold gasket. This is very common for 3.1 v6 motors. I find it hilarious that with all the reading regarding the dexacool coolant (The Orange color) how it is corrosive to the radiator and actually eats way at the gaskets. It is put in after a radiator flush once the new intake manifold gasket is replaced. I personally feel it is best to get it flushed once again but very well to keep from sludging up the coolant system once the green coolant is put into the system. My question is if it was your car and after spending $700 in repairs of the gasket would you consider keeping the dexacool coolant in the system or would rather get it flushed for the green stuff?Should i Keep the Dexacool coolant or change to the Green Coolant after having the intake gasket replaced?Once the green stuff is put in DO NOT put the DexCool in as they don't mix well. sometimes the mix jells and is very hard to get out , some mixes gets hard and you cannot get it out so the block and head are junk.

so far I have worked on some that have been mixed and it is very costly to clean the mix out and thay have had overheating problems ever since.

I found one that the mix got hard like concrete vating the block and head didn't do it and then the heat cleaning also didn;t do it hammer , chisle and drill also couldn't open it up.Should i Keep the Dexacool coolant or change to the Green Coolant after having the intake gasket replaced?get the green stuff, since really coolant should be flushed every couple of years anyway. i always thought dex cool was more of a gimmick than anything.

Do what Jeff B recommends a few paragraphs down and use good Fel Pro gasket set. never had any problems with cars we used those on. GM gaskets would fail again in another 30-50k miles.Should i Keep the Dexacool coolant or change to the Green Coolant after having the intake gasket replaced?flush with ivory soap for about three hours. pour the whole bottle in your radiator, fill with garden hose. let it run until it gets hot, then open your pitcock valve and leave your hose going until you have nothing but clear water coming out...

replace with regular antifreeze (Green). flush every 25000 miles or two years (depending on where you live) The hotter the weather, the more often you flush...like texas or arizona.Should i Keep the Dexacool coolant or change to the Green Coolant after having the intake gasket replaced?obviously you did your homework on this one. definitely get that crap Dex-cool out of there.55,000 miles. I've replaced intake gasket on 98 s-10 pick-up 4.3L with 42,000 miles on it. customer was pissed it only lasted 42,000 miles. i told him to do a search on Dex-cool antifreeze at ask.com and he came back to tell me how crappy that stuff is. we put a chameleon antifreeze in his truck, its like Prestone's %26quot;all makes all models%26quot; antifreeze.

芦Good Luck禄Should i Keep the Dexacool coolant or change to the Green Coolant after having the intake gasket replaced?Do not mix the green coolant in with the dexcool. It turns into a slimey goo! The yellow stuff IS compatible with both and our shop has switched to it with great success. You should put dexcool back in it if you want the best results, but it does not last 100k like they claim. A lot of the problems with the intake gaskets can be cured with the new Fel pro metal backed gasket set. A lot more expensive, but well worth it.Should i Keep the Dexacool coolant or change to the Green Coolant after having the intake gasket replaced?if you can be sure to get all the orange shitty antifreeze out, id def goto green, dexcool one on gms dumbest ideas, also thry make the new coolant that can mix with both but i wouldnt trust it

  • How hard is it to change/flush radiator coolant on au falcons?

It's not that hard takes a bit of time and you could buy a flush kit at some auto parts stores that will help you , plus it be a not bad idea to have a proper anti-freeze tester handy , new thermostat gasket and thermostat , plus the right factory recommended coolant.

No1 get a few drain pans etc , open the rad drain plug and once all the coolant stops coming out close the valve , add warm tap water to the rad or over flow container until full.

No2 start the engine allow it to run until warm then turn on the heater blower until steady heat comes out for a min or so and turn off car.

No3 Drain the rad again fully then close the valve again and add the chemical flush that you can buy for rads etc and water until full.

No4 Start the vehicle and allow for it to run at least 5 mins always keeping an eye on the temperature gauge, then shut it off.

No5 Now add disstilled water to the system and start the vehicle for the water to circulate again , then turn engine off and redrain rad and keep doing this until all clear distilled water comes out of the rad.

No6 Refill the rad or over flow with a 50/50 premixed anti-freeze mixture and check your owners manual for the specs on the coolant too.

No7 Keep rechecking and adding anti-freeze as you let it on a bit off and on.

No8 You may need to remove air bubbles or air clogs via an air breather valve%26quot; looks much like a air valve on a bike or car%26quot; found on some vehicles by the thermostat housing area by opening it up and closing it once you see only coolant coming out but I'd repeat this a few times once engine has run and a bit and after a drive and allowing the engine to cool down quite a bit first. Also you can simply remove the air via removing the rad cap or over cap start up the engine a bit , stand back and wait for the coolant to push out the bubbles.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way some auto parts stores have diagrams or instructions etc they can print out on certain jobs and also a good service manual for that vehicle might help you too.Just keep in mind please that anti-freeze to animals is very sweet and deadly so use a proper oil absorbing materials on any coolant that has spilt , it's much like sawdust that you can buy.

    Confused about Coolant Flush ?

Which is better to do change your coolant or to have a coolant flush? How much are they both? If your coolant is brown which one should you do and does this make your car heat up faster?Confused about Coolant Flush ?Its better if you have a flush. And replace the thermostat. Also check to see the tension of the hoes, upper and lower. Check around the water pump for any leaks and coolant fan if it turns on when it needs too. Also check for any leaks around the radiator. But use the green coolant or anti-freeze. Stay away from the orange one. It tends to eat out or wear out the gaskets.

PRESTONE is the one I use, only.Confused about Coolant Flush ?Don't worry about a pressure flush. You can buy some radiator flush at the auto store and follow the directions. If you really want to take good care of your car, buy a couple of 5 gal. bottles of distilled water when you refill after rinsing out old coolant. mix the distilled water with the anti-freeze. The same process that makes it taste a little flat will be good for your engine because it is removing the dissolved salts and minerals that corrode your coolant system. Don't forget the new thermostat and check over your hoses thoroughly. Good luck!!Confused about Coolant Flush ?drain the coolant

    antifreeze is about 9 dollars

brownish coolant means it just old antifreeze but not badConfused about Coolant Flush ?Wish you'd have included the year make and model of your car as it really IS a big deal which antifreeze formulation you should be using in your car. Follow the handbooks suggestion as to which antifreeze to use.

Old fashioned green type antifreeze (including regular Prestone) contains silicates which wears water pump bearings and causes cavitation inside aluminum water-pumps, cylinder heads and blocks. Cavitation actually wares and removes aluminum.

First of all, depending on the age of the car and the regularity of cooling system services makes a huge difference exactly what type of cooling service your car should have. If you have not had it drained and flushed in the past three years it's best to do it up correctly and have it acid cleaned as well as drained and flushed.

Prestone makes: Super Radiator Cleaner in a 33 oz. plastic bottle that should be run through the system for at least 200 miles *after flushing the system. This cleaner removes rust, corrosion and old antifreeze discolored deposits from the block, heads, radiator and heater core.

As a suggestion, always install a new factory thermostat of the proper heat value as listed in your handbook in the specification pages.

Your car's cooling system will heat the heater core faster if it's cleaned and flushed properly. Scum and junk build up in the radiator, heater core, cylinder heads and block acts as an insulator. The coolant can't *adsorb or dissipate heat as fast as it could if the system was absolutely clean.

How do you change the engine coolant to a 97 cavalier?

I cant tell you the location of everything, but you need to find the radiator drain plug drain the radiator. then runn your engine for 30 seconds or so while pouring water in to the coolant system then turn it off. Replace drain plug, and fill with 50/50 mix of water and coolant. How do you change the engine coolant to a 97 cavalier?do u mean the anti freeze if so theres a valve at the bottom of the radiatorHow do you change the engine coolant to a 97 cavalier? It should have a drain plug at the bottom of it, open it like a faucet let all the liquid come out and keep adding water so everything comes out like rust and sediments, then you can close it back up, fill it up and and make sure it's not leaking from that plug. make sure 50%coolant 50% water

Hope this heps! How do you change the engine coolant to a 97 cavalier?at the bottom of the radiator there is a valve sticking out .turn the valve to open it remove the radiator cap and wllow the fluid to drain completely. close the valve and add new coolant and water mixed at 50percent water /50 percent antifreeze ( you can buy the antifreeze already mixed with water )until radiater is full. put cap on ,start car, check that valve is not leaking by a visual inspection of the valve, and run for one minute turn car off and add more fluid if needed. this should protect from freezing in most states. How do you change the engine coolant to a 97 cavalier?First locate the radiator petcock, this closely resembles a wind up toy key and must be turned counterclockwise, start the engine from a cold start and feed water into the reserve tank for 5 to ten minutes or until the coolant runs clear, usually your petcock is located at the bottom of the radiator on the left or right most side facing towards the engine. Remove the hose and wait until no coolant exits the system meaning your car is bone dry of coolant, quickly turn off the vehicle and secure the petcock by turning it clockwise until it is reasonably tight (not extremely tight). Mix the recommended amount of coolant for your in 50/50 portions (1/2 water, 1/2 straight coolant) you can also by premixed coolant but you will need to buy more to achieve the amount you need. Use a funnel to fill the radiator and once again start the car, continue to fill the radiator until the coolant reaches about 1 inch from the bottom of the filler neck. Fill the reserve tank up to the cold marking and run the car for about 5-10 minutes, if the coolant is below the hot marking on your reserve tank, fill it until it reaches the hot mark.

How important is it to have your cylinder head resurfaced when replacing your head gasket?

I have a 1996 j-body sedan with a 2.2 engine. I have an external leak in my head gasket (leaking coolant), that apparently is not affecting compression and there is no coolant/oil mix. I narrowed down my choices to 2 main options for fixing it:

    1. Have it fixed locally for about $1000 including gasket kit, resurfacing, labour and tax.

    2. Have it fixed by a friend who is a Toyota tech for about $500 (parts/labour/tax). But I would need to drive the car for about 300 hwy kms, and would likely not be able to have the cylinder head resurfaced.

Any thoughts? Would also appreciate suggestions of other associated repairs/maintenance that I should consider (timing chain and tensioner were done 40,000km ago, coolant changed 10,000 km ago).

Get new bolts too, the old ones may break. How important is it to have your cylinder head resurfaced when replacing your head gasket? Both people want to take you to the cleaners. you don't need to surface the cylinder just to replace the head gasket, as long as there isn't a crack you won't have a problem. If you have any tools do it yourselfe. Check your coolant to see if it's still at the required temp. for your area. I would get a third quote on the job if you can't do it yourselfe! How important is it to have your cylinder head resurfaced when replacing your head gasket? No way to tell till the heads come off. They'll just lay a straight edge on it and see if it's warped too much. The #2 friend hopefully won't put it back on if it's warped. If it is, he'll be able to get it planed for a whole lot less than $500.How important is it to have your cylinder head resurfaced when replacing your head gasket?Resurfacing the head will insure that you have a good matching surface to the block. This is to guarantee that the problem does not repeat it self. Sometimes the pressure will cause a slight grove in the head. This grove may not be noticeable. In the long run it is better to resurface the head. How important is it to have your cylinder head resurfaced when replacing your head gasket?Cylinder heads have a set tolerance for warpage. If it us under, your OK. If not, the gasket will leak again. I would have it resurfaced. How important is it to have your cylinder head resurfaced when replacing your head gasket? If it's leaking towards the front right corner of engine (while looking at eng from front of car) then just get it replaced. That is a very common leak area on the 2.2 chevHow important is it to have your cylinder head resurfaced when replacing your head gasket?Getting the cylinder head resurfaced is probably the best way to go. It will ensure that the gasket is seated correctly and compressed evenly. An even compression on the seal will help assure that it won't leak.

Another factor to take into consideration is that it might be a rough patch in the cylinder head surface that is causing the leak. In that case, you would HAVE to have it resurfaced, or else it will never seal.

One final thing to consider, is that if you take it to a shop, their work is usually guarunteed and warranteed. If something goes wrong and is the fault of the shop, they have to pay for it. If something goes wrong with your friend, you are SOL.

I would suggest taking it to a shop. How important is it to have your cylinder head resurfaced when replacing your head gasket?take it to a mechanic localy that 2.2 engine has an aluminum cylinder head its very important to check the deck of the head and resurface if it needs it BUT U MUST CHECK IT. ALUMINUM IS PRONE TO WARP DESPITE BEING OVERHEATED OR NOT most mechanics especially backyard self taught no schooling mechanics dont know how to take an aluminum head off to help prevent warping spend the 1k ull get a warranty too. 1k is cheap compared to what i charge but i also check valves and spring pressure to because ur already there. How important is it to have your cylinder head resurfaced when replacing your head gasket?you should always have it resurfaced

  • Engine coolant cost?

how much does it usually cost to have the engine coolant changed at an autoshop?Engine coolant cost?Thats kind of a loaded question. I bet if you called 20 different shops, you would get 20 different answers. It all depneds on varios things. Coolant type and amount needed, type of vehicle, shop labor cost and what type of flush are you wanting. Chemical flushes, drain and fill, back flushes, etc. Could be anywhere from 29.95 to 99.95 Keep in mind, most vehicles have extended life coolant, ( the pink , gold, yellow or red coolant) those can go from 5/150 to 3/50kEngine coolant cost? They will probably charge like $30.... you can do it for $15.Engine coolant cost? Here in Texas the dealer charges between $ 30 and $ 50.

    Bought a Honda Accord?

1996 Honda Accord. Fully loaded. Leather and sunroof. I don't see any antennae. Is there one, not really worried bout. I just noticed there is a glue patch thing on the radiator. Will it hold? and how can i make it last forever. my moms 1993 honda accord dx sucked! broke down alot. i risked it and bought a Honda. v6. Timing belt has not been changed. Going to soon. Just changed coolant even thought it was still green. Oil bolt is on tight! can't get it off

the speakers have an adapter? how woudl i replace them with aftermarket speakersBought a Honda Accord?i have an 89 honda accord lx.... and it has been the best car!...i get great gas mileage, and its a friggen tank!... i got in a wreck in it a lil over a year ago, it was considered totaled, but i pulled out a few dents, and 30,000 miles later, its just as good as ever. about the radiator, it was prolly just a hairline crack they patched, just keep an eye on your temp. gague.

just keep up on reg. maintenace too, check spark plaugs, replace any hoses or anything that may be dry-rotted, and go for an inspection, and if your timing is off they will get it right at the inspection....best of luck!Bought a Honda Accord?Cannot really say for the rest but the stereo antenna on that model is likely impressed into the glass of the rear window.Bought a Honda Accord?Honda Accords are very dependable cars, you shouldnt worry too much here..... for the antenna it should be in the windsheild if there isnt one on the fender. As long as you take care of the car it should be fine, keep it tuned up and do oil changes every 5 k miles.

    Phillips magnavox?

how to change coolant fluid on a rear projection magnavox???Phillips magnavox?Oh, This is a fun job... I do it at least twice a week!!!

It is messy and time consuming and requires you to remove the tube. Usually only the blue tube needs the fluid changed as some kind of scum grows in it. it sometimes also happens to the green tube.

First step is to get to the tube usually by disassembling the back of the cabinet then the front. I can not go into details because all the different models and years have a different procedure,

Next step would be to remove the neck board and the yoke. the neck board is often glued on (Cut the glue away) although I have seen clamps and other methods used to keep it from falling off. the yoke is usually held on by a single bolt on a clamp. note its position as it must be returned exactly to the same place.

You will also have to remove the connection to the high voltage connection on the flyback transformer. this is sometimes tricky. Most cases you just pull it out - Very hard pull which cuts off the end of the wire. You will have to strip back a bit insulation to reuse the wire. The installation of this wire after your done is one of the most worrysome bits. Also the grounds around the metal parts of the tube will have to be disconnected - easy job.

Usually there are 4 screws on the top of the frame holding each tube in place. usually if everything is disconnected ok then the tubes come out quite easily at this point.

After the tube is out of the television I usually place it face down in a pan. Then I mark the tube and components down one side with a permanent marker to make sure the components are put back together the same way as it came apart.

On the back of the assembly there are 4 bolts with springs attached - Loosen up these bolts a few turns at a time to release the tube from the projection lense. Once these are removed the tube is usually stuck to the lense.

Now for the messy part. A slight whack or will usually separate the assembly. There it is in all its glory the coolant. Dump the old cooling fluid down the drain and wash everything with soap and water. I use dawn dish soap.

Keep the water out of the lens as it will make a messy fog inside. It will enter through the mechanical focus adjustment quite easily. You will need fresh supply of coolant before reassembly - several suppliers have it but MCM is the easiest place to order online. Make sure you have at least one bottle per tube before starting - some use less but it is nice to have extra.

Place the lens face down in a pan and pour the coolant up to level to the sealing gasket. place the picture tube back onto the lens - coolant will gush out and thats ok. The pan will catch it. Make sure you marks are aligned also. Place the metal clamp on top of the tube and start the bolts with the springs. tighten them down evenly - no more then a few turns on each bolt at a time.

Reverse the disassembly procedure to reassemble.

The next step will be alignment and convergence. sometimes even harder then replacement of the fluid

How to change my oil coolant hoses on my 93 chev 4x4 eng.350 what will I need other than the hoses?

The hoses, oil and the o-rings for the ends. There's a bracket at the front corner of the block that they attach to, the ends at the radiator and at the filter adapter. I think the hose ends are 20mm or 13/16 and the nut on the bracket is 13mm. There's a support bracket from the motor mount to the bellhousing cover that may get in your way. Figure out which hose goes where and mark the new ones so you can put them in right easier. How to change my oil coolant hoses on my 93 chev 4x4 eng.350 what will I need other than the hoses?screwdriver, socket if screwdriver dosent work

  • How to replace coolant in a 2001 Chrysler Concorde? And is old coolant the problem?

Last week, my car stopped emitting hot air into the cabin, but rather cool air. So I haven't driven it in a few days. Today, I tried to start it to get the coolant changed at a PEP Boys and the car would turn on but fail to start. Could this be because it needs fresh coolant to start properly?

And could a coolant change help the heat situation? I have a bottle of coolant in the garage; is this task do-able for the car novice?

I should add that it snowed about eight inches the other day, so the car is pretty cold. I've been cleaning the snow off of it regularly and it's sunny today. How to replace coolant in a 2001 Chrysler Concorde? And is old coolant the problem?Low coolant, very old coolant, a bad thermostat or faulty heat control switch can all cause a loss of heat inside the vehicle once the engine temperature is sufficient to provide heat.

Coolant needs to be changed every 2-3 years depending on the service requirements set forth by the manufacture of the vehicle.

Coolant does not factor in to the starting equation and neither does snow effect coolant temperatures. I suggest having it flushed and filled, a common service at most garages.

Fresh coolant and a properly functioning thermostat will deliver more heat. How to replace coolant in a 2001 Chrysler Concorde? And is old coolant the problem? It's easy to tell you are not the %26quot;mechanic type%26quot; and therefore it would be safer for you and your car to have a professional mechanic service your vehicle. There are different types of coolant/anti-freeze and if mixed may gel the fluids. You also need to bleed the air from the radiator after changing the coolant or you will get an air pocket which will cause the problem which you describe. Since you have not changed your anti-freeze yet, it would seem you have another problem causing the air pocket. A bad head gasket, leaking water pump, or leaking radiator hoses are a possibility. Old coolant has nothing to do with the car not starting.

You will need to have the battery and alternator tested. If the battery is old it could fail if you don't drive the car for several days. A weak battery works OK if charged everyday, but usually fails once it gets cold outside or if it sits and does not get charged daily. Make sure the battery cables get cleaned. It's best to have a car worked on during the week Monday through Thursday. The High School dropouts work the weekend shifts when the good mechanics take off. If parts need to be ordered, Friday is too late to order them to have the car by the weekend.

    Bmw over heating?

how to change coolant bmw 5 seriesBmw over heating? If the engine is over heating it is unlikely that the coolant is the problem. There are several things that could be at fault:-

    1) Thermostat failed in closed position.

    2) Electric fan not cutting in.

    3) Water pump failed.

    4) Gasket on headed tank filler damaged.

    5) Header cap filler spring damaged.

    6) Sender unit of thermostat not working.

    7) Radiator matrix blocked.

Ja.Bmw over heating? If the engine is overheating it is unlikely to be the coolant which is at fault. It is more likely to be the thermostatic valve which opens to allow the fluid to circulate. This is probably not opening and hence no circulation and overheating.

Buy a Haynes manual. They are available for just about every car their is and will explain how to do most jobs and provide plenty pictures and diagrams.Bmw over heating?first check the coolant level. then check to make sure that the cooling fan fuse has not blown.Bmw over heating?I had a BMW 540i, the dealer will use a special pressurized system to fill the cooling system.

but you need to top it up, wait till it gets hot (stats open) then carefully vent the air from the rad, not the expansion bottle. then when it cools it will draw the water from the expansion bottle, it took me weeks to get to the right level.

? - Where can i find a wiring diagram free

? - Any other good ideas to check %26amp; description on how to do it2002 Honda Shadow Sabre Overheating?Sounds to me like either your fan switch (thermostat switch, attached to the thermostat housing turns the fan on) , the actual thermostat, or the water pump is bad. Start the bike with the radiator cap off, and watch the coolant. When the bike reaches temperature, and the thermostat opens, you should be able to see the coolant level drop, and circulate in the radiator. If the thermostat is stuck shut, it wont drop or circulate, and if its stuck open, it will circulate constantly. If it does either of those, the thermostat is shot, it needs to open and close completely and cycle correctly. If the water level drops slightly, with no circulation, your water pump is not circulating the water, and needs to be replaced.2002 Honda Shadow Sabre Overheating?seems you listed everything in the coolant system except the thermostat, could be getting stuck.2002 Honda Shadow Sabre Overheating?ditto %26quot;roadawg%26quot;. You are probably looking for %26quot;thermo unit%26quot; #33 and %26quot;switch assy, thermo%26quot; #34

You'd have to have a shop manual to trouble shoot them.

Honda accord engine block coolant drain plug?

We are trying to remove the drain plug, but even using a pipe and ratchet wrench for extra torque we cannot remove it. Any suggestions?

Does this plug normally get opened when changing the coolant. Does any one know how much coolant is in the engine block? I drained about 1 gallon of coolant from the radiator drain plug.Honda accord engine block coolant drain plug?Leave it alone, if your coolant was clean just close radiator drain and refill according to specs, if coolant was dirty then flush system and refill.Honda accord engine block coolant drain plug? The plugs on the block are not designed to ever come out!!!!!!!! You screwed up big time. Most likely you will need to replace that frost plug ( have a professional do it). To drain the coolant just take off the lower radiator hose and let it drain out to flush it out then take a garden hose and run it in through the upper intake on the engine or through the radiator.

After you think you are done have you coolant system pressure tested and tell them that you hacked away at the frost plugs and to be checked for leaks.

Before you try any repairs on your car make sure you read up on it and know what you are doing to prevent damaging something you know nothing about!

  • Oil and coolant Almera?

Hi there, I would like to know how much coolant I should buy to be sufficient for a coolant change, and what are the best makes please, Has to be anti freeze as well.

I am taking my car to a village garage I go to, but I am buying the parts before I go there. I already have a oil filter, getting new spark plugs. I normally use castrol oil, 10/40, which used in my vectra sri before, would this be okay in a 1997 almera?

Many thanks.Oil and coolant Almera? The garage will be able to do and charge for the exact amount where you will have to overbuy up to the next container size so you would be better to let them do it.Oil and coolant Almera?Use the factory recommended coolant-antifreeze and oil.

Valvoline and Castrol are the best non-synthetics out there!!Oil and coolant Almera?Do you have your owners manual? It will tell you what oil to use. 10w40 is normally to heavy for todays engines. 5w30 or 10w30 is used most. I've used Castrol for years. As far as the anti-freeze/coolant, it should be about 50/50 water/anti-freeze. You can buy it pre-mixed and 2 gallons should be enough. Good luck.

Radiator cap in Vw not reservoir?

How do you flush radiator to change coolant? Looking for radiator cap not the reservoir.Radiator cap in Vw not reservoir?VW has a pressureized reservoir and no radiator cap on the radiator. You flush it by installing a T in the heater line and running a garden hose to the T fitting and flush it with the car running.

How important is it to use distilled water when changing your coolant in your car?

    Just use tap water.

The anti-freeze has chemicals that will neutralize any contaminates in your water. If you can drink the water, it is safe to use in your car.

How important is it to use distilled water when changing your coolant in your car?tap water has minerals and salt and other elements that do not do well in the cooling system, not to mention chlorine, these can ruin gaskets, cause excessive rust inside the block, and clog the radiator, filtered drinking water may be used also, but distilled is the best, How important is it to use distilled water when changing your coolant in your car?I think that's for batteries..How important is it to use distilled water when changing your coolant in your car? It's not really as long as you mix the water with coolant.Otherwise no you could pi ss in it,as long as the engine runs at the correct operating temp it's fine. How important is it to use distilled water when changing your coolant in your car?It is always best as a way to keep contaminants and unwanted mineral deposits from building up in your cooling system. How important is it to use distilled water when changing your coolant in your car?R.O. (Reverse Osmosis) water is the safest water when you're just using it to get something else out of the way without leaving something in. Literally all it is, is H2O. no minerals, salts, carbs, fats, artificial flavors...i.e. exactly what you need when you dont want any sort of deposits in your cooling system. How important is it to use distilled water when changing your coolant in your car?it is as said very important. mineral deposits can build up over time and create a barrier between the cylinder walls and the coolant and then heat transfer becomes poor and hot spots are made.

hi, i changed the coolant (as per service manual) however it now overheats. my brother (mechanic) said there may be a bubble in the system. there is nothing in the manual to suggest bubbles or their removal. also, the fan did not come on even when it was hot. (my bro thinks this is also because of the bubble.) Does anyone know how to remove a bubble or what could be causing the problem? My scooter is overheating after i changed the coolant?Yeah sounds like an air lock in the system.

With the engine cold, remove the radiator cap and start the engine, let it run and add more coolant until it's full. Then put the cap back on and let it all go cold again. Then remove the radiator cap and repeat. It may take several goes. Squeezing the hoses may help force water round the engine.

If you took the thermostat out, you could have put it in upside down. They have a small hole at the top to let air through. If it's upside down the air becomes trapped.

I noticed my heater would only blow cold air so I decided to Check the coolant and it is completely empty probably not the best way to be driving with no coolant so i m wondering how to fill it up. do i just pour the bottle of coolant in until full do i dilute the coolant how do i do it also is coolant and antifreeze the same thing? If somone could give me a step my step way to do this that would be great im trying to save myself from having to go to a repair shop so any help you can give is appriciated ThnxHow do I change the coolant in my 97 neon/is coolant and antifreeze the same thing?Coolant and anti freeze is the same thing in a modern vehicle. This is a mix of about 50/50 of distilled or deionized water and antifreeze. You can buy it already mixed for you at any auto parts store like auto zone or Kragen etc. If engine is cold you can remove the radiator cap and add your coolant mix to fill radiator then add some to the overflow reservoir to the cold fill line. After filling and running vehicle up to temp for a day you will probably have to add a bit more to overflow reservoir. Should be no need to add directly to radiator. Caution never remove radiator cap when engine is hot as radiator is under pressure and you can get severely burnt.

It only takes 1 gallon of coolant the rest is water. Cheaper at your mechanics shop.Hey mechanics!! should i get my coolant flushed at valvoline or at the dealership? If you are still under warrenty I would go to dealership. The cost is more, but it will not invalidate the warrenty. Your car holds about 1.2 gallons of fluid, but the mix ratio may be 60/40%, meaning 60% antifreeze, 40% water. Your owners mauel should say.Hey mechanics!! should i get my coolant flushed at valvoline or at the dealership?dealership

  • How to change transmission and coolant fluids on a Dodge Neon?

We called a place for pricing on these two, the tran was $250 and the coolant was $90 to change. That seems rather pricey!

Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to do it?How to change transmission and coolant fluids on a Dodge Neon?there are websites tht explain everything.

As far as the transmission is concerned you have to consult your owners manual to be absolutely sure you use the correct type of trans fluid. Using the wrong type will definitely cause problems.

Thats the problem with shops that do the work,,,,they often put in the wrong fluid,,,,and the trans goes kaput. That includes the dealers also.

    How to change the coolant?

I want to replace the coolant and am not sure how to empty the radiator. I need to do this first prior to adding the new coolant. I have a chrysler 2002, 300MHow to change the coolant?First make sure the engine is cool and the system is not pressurized. Safety is always the first step.

There is a drain plug on the bottom of the radiator somewhere, usually on the right. With the radiator cap still on, open this and drain the coolant into a container. Please keep this container in a place animals cant get to. They are attracted to the sweet smell of ethylene glycol and will drink it and die.The coolant recovery bottle should empty first. Once this is empty, remove the radiator cap and let the remaining fluid drain. Refill with 50/50 mix of new antifreeze.

This will do fine in many situations, but i always do a complete flush on my vehicles.

Some people say to get a bottle of cooling system flush, but in my opinion it isn't needed unless your car has 100,000 miles or more, or you have circulation problems, which could be indicated by temperature being higher than normal, but not enough to be considered overheating.

To do a complete flush, follow the above instructions, then fill the radiator with water.let the engine run for a few minutes with the heater control on high.shut of the engine, and drain the radiator again.repeat this process until only clean water comes out. Refill with 50/50 mix of antifreeze.(the green stuff, the other types are worthless)

If you do choose to use the cooling system flush, there should be instructions on the bottle, and i recommend the brand Zenex. Beware, though, your skin will get irritated it if it gets on it. And be sure to dispose of the old coolant properly. How to change the coolant? On the bottom of the radiator is a drain, open it into a container. Drain fully, refill, and dispose of coolant to a parts store or recycler. How to change the coolant?normally on the drivers side bottom part of the radiator. But always on the bottom of the radiator due to this is the lowest point in the system which all the Fluid can run out

    Coolant change?

just drained radiator on 98 ford contour v6, radiator only took 1 gallon, needed 2, do i have air trapped in system, how to purge?Coolant change?make sure your t-stat isnt stuck closed. if its good:

Fill coolant reservoir to MAX mark with 50/50 water-coolant mixture. Loosen bleed bolt and fill radiator up to base of filler neck. Close bleed bolt when coolant flows out without bubbles. Tighten bleed bolt. With radiator cap removed, start and operate engine to normal operating temperature. Add coolant if necessary and check for leaks.Coolant change? You drained the radiator, not the whole system. The only way to exchange ALL the coolant is a power flush. You still want to burp the system, as all PP said, but don't expect it to take a whole lot more. You can look to see if that model has a bleeder screw on the thermostat housing, or run it and allow the air to collect in the radiator, then top it off. Either way, you should check the coolant after your first real trip to be sure no air bubbles were loosed from the motor.Coolant change?crank and let it run with cap off watch the flow rasie and lower might have to put cap on a few times and check til it gets warm enough to open thermostat... takes 30 minute or longer sometimes to get them fullCoolant change?start the engine, with the cap off, wait for thermostat to open, and continue filling
