1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport Coolant Question?

I have a 1999 Jeep Cherokee with high mileage and wanted to drain/flush out my coolant and change it. Problem is, I can't find the petcock to drain it out. I would just yank off the hose and drain it that way, but getting to it is not an easy task. Can't find anything about it on AutoZone either. So here is my question:

Anyone know where and how to get to the drain spout or a better way to do it?

And take it to a mechanic is not the answer I'm looking for.1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport Coolant Question? While this may not be the answer you are looking for you can probaby find a coupon to have a shop completely flush the entire cooling system for $49.99 to $59.99. Doing it yourself you'll be lucky to drain half the system out and is it really worth the time and grief?1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport Coolant Question?Your petcock, if I remember correctly, is down low sticking out on the passenger side-could be drivers' side, I'm not sure.

The main thing I would suggest to you, is pick up a reverse flush kit, just a few dollars at most parts houses. Also, don't worry about the petcock too much, you may be having trouble finding it because the ears are broken off-in which case remove the lower main hose from the radiator to drain the system .1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport Coolant Question?some radiators dont have drain plugs. the only other way i know, is take the bottom hose off, or take the bottom hose off from the water pump and drain it that way.

How to change the engine coolant on a 2001 Audi A4 2.8L?

You could get a shop manual, but if you refuse to, here are a couple tips: Find a drain plug somewhere on the bottom of your radiator and use it to drain your old coolant. Add new coolant in a 50/50 mix with water and hope that's what your Audi requires.

  • I changed my coolant and have some questions...I used Prestone 50/50. Did I do something wrong?

Today a friend and I changed the coolant in my 2002 Mazda Protege ES. My friend is a mechanic and directed me how to do everything. I bought some Prestone 50 % coolant/50% distilled water to complete the job. We drained it and then flushed the radiator with water. Everything went fine. We added the Prestone with some water, started it up and let it run for 10min with the heat on. So far so good as the car is running fine.

Question is, although I am told that it was fine to use the Prestone 50/50 by two mechanics -- incl. one at Mazda. I have some reservations, either that or a blonde moment. I am worried that I don't have enough coolant? Am I being foolish or is there something I should do?I changed my coolant and have some questions...I used Prestone 50/50. Did I do something wrong?Personally, 50/50 is a waste of money. you save like $2.00 and get a half gallon of water. where's the savings??

OK.. you flushed the system, cool.

Can you guarentee you got all of the water out of the engine block? The answer is no. So you have straight water still in the engine block. you fillled with 50/50 antifreeze. you're supposed to have an antifreeze mixture of 50/50.

so with the extra water, you're now 25% antifreeze, 75% water.

the 50/50 is good for topping off if you aren't sure how the mixtures are.

the 2 mechanics assumed that 100% of the water would be removed and that simply isn't possible by regular means.

what I'd do is buy a gallon of concentrate, drain the radiator only, fill it back up with the concentrate antifreeze. you'll rebalance yourself and would be fine.

If you don't get the 50/50 mix, it's really OK.. a little more concentrate won't hurt anything, but less can.

Buy an antifreeze tester, prestone makes them, they're like $5 and it's accurate enough to see what the percentage is.I changed my coolant and have some questions...I used Prestone 50/50. Did I do something wrong?I am not sure just what you mean by enough coolant. If it is full and the expansion tank is up to the mark that part is fine. If you are asking about the mix strength yes 50/50 is correct.I changed my coolant and have some questions...I used Prestone 50/50. Did I do something wrong?if you used a 50/50 anti-freeze you should not add any water.

buy a cheap anti-freeze tester and test to see what you

haveI changed my coolant and have some questions...I used Prestone 50/50. Did I do something wrong? If you flushed it with water, and didn't remove the drain plugs in the radiator AND the engine block, then it might be a little weak. You can buy an antifreeze/coolant tester for a few dollars at an auto parts store, and it will show your level of freeze protection. Any repair shop should be able to test it for you, if you don't want to buy a tester, but it's a good tool to have.I changed my coolant and have some questions...I used Prestone 50/50. Did I do something wrong?a 50/50 mix is the proper ratio of water to antifreeze. This is NOT wrong. The only time you would ever want to change that ratio is if you lived in a climate where the temperature is always -30 degrees below zero or more.

Under normal conditions, you want a 50/50 mix. If you have too much antifreeze, you can make things too corrosive for the internals of your engine.

And too much water in the ratio would make it possible for the coolant to freeze if it got too cold.

    You did the right thing.

How can i remove all air pockets from radiator cooling system on my 406 coupe v6?

I have recently changed the coolant in my peugeot 406 after series of overheating issues due to the radiator cap being damaged.I done the mixture 50/50 as adviced but the temperature of the car seems to be between 90 and 110 degrees cent. which i think is still quite high and since then the heating in the car seems to be cool rather than warm.after reading various related answers on here.i believe its got something to do with air trapped in the cooling system and apparently need to bleed it somehow.anyone knows how best to do this. Also, after allowing the car cool off for bout hour and half.i opened up the radiator cap and the coolant came pouring out.any ideas or suggestionsHow can i remove all air pockets from radiator cooling system on my 406 coupe v6?Hi mate, take a look at your other question on this one, I've given you a thing on how to bleed the system, I did it when I changed my radiator and even in extreme traffic doesn't pass 90oC, normal operating temp is 75-80oC.

ChrisHow can i remove all air pockets from radiator cooling system on my 406 coupe v6?Have the heater on so the air wont trap there you can let it idle with cap off till air escapes some time this wont work %26gt; So heat up shut of it will perg it self if you put the correct cap back on%26gt;%26gt;Have anti freeze in the over flow tank and keep checking it%26gt;How can i remove all air pockets from radiator cooling system on my 406 coupe v6?Try parking it on very steep hill with the radiator pointing up hill. Then remove the radiator cap (cold) and warm up the engine with the inside car heater on full hot. Hopefully when your engine is hot enough and it's thermostat opens fully, all the trapped air will be burped out of the radiator mouth. Top off the coolant and replace the radiator cap.How can i remove all air pockets from radiator cooling system on my 406 coupe v6?Open the water filler, start the engine and leave the heater on full heat (no a/c). Then when is it warm, squeeze all of the water hoses. Have someone rev it to get the waterpump pumping quicker and it will be okay.

How often are you suppost to change the transmission oil, and coolant?

I have a 2008 Chevy Cobalt LS with 21,000 miles. I usully change the motor oil every 3,000 miles, but I have never changed the transmission oil or the coolant. Do i need to change it soon? How often are you suppost to change the transmission oil, and coolant? If you have red coolant, every 5 years. If blue every 3 years, if green, every year.

Manual transmission oil every 50,000 miles. Automatic transmission every 25,000 miles. Brake fluid every 50,000 miles. Power steering fluid every 50,000 miles. How often are you suppost to change the transmission oil, and coolant? The first thing you want to do is reach into your glove box and get your operators manual. It will give you the manufacturers schedule of maintenance. This does vary from manufacturers.

As a rule of thumb though you want to change your engines oil @ every 3000 miles. Some of the newer engines require synthetic oil and the intervals are much greater.

As far as antifreeze goes you want to check it every fall with an antifreeze tester. You can pick them up cheap at any parts store. Check your coolants protection level. A good 50-50 mix of ethanol glycol and water will put the protection at its best level.

If you can't find that operators manual all you need to do is call your local dealership that makes your make of car/truck. They will be more than happy to give you the information. How often are you suppost to change the transmission oil, and coolant?Transmission fluid, if it's an automatic, every 25,000 miles. Coolant once a year. How often are you suppost to change the transmission oil, and coolant?Coolant every 36,000 miles

Engine oil, every 2,000, why you ask does the engine stop running while you sit at a red light? You all could potentially have over 5,000 miles on your engine, and three thousand on the tires.
