How do you know if you have a blown head gasket 97 lt1 camaro?

it is a 97 lt1 camao, Ive noticed that in the morning the temp is at 180 but in the afternoon it goes to 210 sometimes to the 3/4 marker, i changed the waterpump, stat, coolant, did the air bleed, fans are on directly, and just did a coolant flush and removed debree, I also have a transmission cooler in front of the radiation but its been there for two years, i noticed the problem about three months ago. I changed the water pump this past week same thing happens, might think that its a blown head gasket but there is no water in the oil or white smoke. How do you know if you have a blown head gasket 97 lt1 camaro?I wouldn't worry about 210. have you thought you might have a bad sensor? I doubt very much that you have a blown head gasket. If you bought a 195 stat you should read between 200 %26amp; 210.How do you know if you have a blown head gasket 97 lt1 camaro?I think a bad head gasket would mean oil or water in the exhaust, white or gray smoke. Also you would be losing oil or water levels. Try a compression check. How do you know if you have a blown head gasket 97 lt1 camaro?Check for water coming from your exhaust pipe. Look for gas bubbles in the radiator when the engine is running. Check the real temperature of the coolant, the Gage may be in error. Do a compression test. How do you know if you have a blown head gasket 97 lt1 camaro?210 is fine on an LT1. On my Northstar seville, the fans don't even kick on till 225. You will know if you have a blown head gasket. White smoke will POUR out the tail pipe and it will be missing like crazy. Only be concerned if antifreeze is vanishing out of the car.How do you know if you have a blown head gasket 97 lt1 camaro?check under your car lay under front bumper and look up at front of radiator you could have a plastic bag up there or something thats what was wrong with mine

Engine coolant sensor (ECT) how does it work?

On the wiring dirgam its shown as a variable resistor. So the computer gives it a fixed voltage and as the coolant heats up the sensor the resistance changes and this voltage increase or decrease and that voltage is read as a temp by the computer. Is this correct? This is a 2 wire sensor and if I measure across the 2 pins with an ohm meter its open shouldn't it have some reading and as I heat it up I should see a change in resistance right? or does it need to be a voltage supplied in order to work?

thanksEngine coolant sensor (ECT) how does it work?i dont think a computer is involvedEngine coolant sensor (ECT) how does it work? You are correct in how it works. Most systems work with a 5 volt reference voltage sent to the sensor. as it heats up the resistance increases and the return voltage drops. at 195 deg. most cars are at about 1.5 volts returned. Some a little more or less.

The engine cooling fan sensor is normally open then closes at 210 deg. to ground a cooling fan relay and turn on the fan. don't confuse the two circuits. Often times they are close to each other on the car.Engine coolant sensor (ECT) how does it work?Year, Mileage %26amp; Details? Are you having an Overheating Problem?

  • 2000 chevy impala low coolant light on???

Ok The car has 87K miles on it. I just had the water pump replaced because it was leaking coolant. The light comes on when I start the car and stays on until the Temp gage reads around 180 degrees. I have been keeping an eye on the coolant level and it has not changed. Do I have a bad sensor or is there an air bubble? I also put stop leak in prior to getting my water pump replaced. Could this be causing a clog in the system somewhere? Please help me diagnose this and any suggestions on how to fix would be most appreciated.2000 chevy impala low coolant light on???The coolant sensor shouldn't be bad, it just needs to be reset. The nearest Chey dealership can do this for you. Once it's been reset and eventually comes back on then there's a problem which the dealership can detect with a little hand held system scanner that plugs into your car.2000 chevy impala low coolant light on???If you coolant level is ok ,get a rubber hammer or something and tap on the coolant tank. These sensors have a habit of sticking after work is done on the coolant system. The stop leak probably stuck it.2000 chevy impala low coolant light on???is the sensor on the side of the radiator or the coolant reservoir.is it plastic or brass type.the sensors are cheap.jus replace them.disconnect your battery terminals for 15min.reconnect add fluid and enjoy...2000 chevy impala low coolant light on???Hey we have the same car but I have double the miles and she's still running like a beaut! Its probably a sensor problem since it does go off at times. Get a diagnostic reading.2000 chevy impala low coolant light on???if the coolant level is good then the sensor may be bad by not reading the right temp at lower readings Replace it its usually cheap if it dosent work then the problem might be in the ECM or the instrument cluster2000 chevy impala low coolant light on???Thermostat is on the fritz and or your sensor. It shouold all be under warranty if you just got it fixed...take it back in.2000 chevy impala low coolant light on???If you have the 3.4L you might want to have the head gasket checked. It is a very common problem and would explain the coolant loss. Check your oil, to see if it is milky in color and texture2000 chevy impala low coolant light on???I have a 2000 Impala.

I wouldn't worry about the lights. All GM cars have those glitches. As long as your temp is ok, and you're not leaking anything except water off the AC unit, you're fine.2000 chevy impala low coolant light on???intake gaskets, i bet 1,000,000,000.00 dollars they are leaking they all do and it cost about 350 to get them replaced2000 chevy impala low coolant light on???there is a sensor in the %26quot;overflow%26quot; ( where you fill the system) that is the problem. clean the sensor first and if problem persists then replace.2000 chevy impala low coolant light on???Ok, check the sensory rotar before flushing the coolant. Apply a compound known as 'terrier soluable' into the coolant mainframe. Be sure to only fill it at the allowable tempature. From there, run your engine for a good 2 hours, turn off, let cool, then buy something known as 'mercury saline' to tighten up any cracks.

Car sitting 42 years freeup and starting?

I found a 1949 Cadillac series 61, been sitting since 1966. I know the motor and trans has to be rebuilt it檚 my restoration project but I was wondering what I would have to do to try to start it! I would guess changing the tranny fluid, engine oil, coolant. And how would I go about freeing up the engine as it is locked.Car sitting 42 years freeup and starting?Remove each spark plug and add a couple of ounces of penetrating oil to each cylinder. Leave it sit for a couple of days. After a few days, try and rotate the engine manually. If it still won't turn, add a little more oil to the cylinders and try again.

With a little patience, you should be able to free the engine. But do not attempt to start yet.

Inspect and replace any bad fuel rubber fuel lines. With something that has been sitting 42 years, this will most likely be all of them. If you don't, you could easily burn your project, and garage, to the ground before you even start.

Rebuild the carburetor. It most likely won't work without a rebuild because of the dried fuel and accumulated dirt.

Remove the gas tank. Drain all of the fuel from the gas tank. Clean the tank. Purge the fuel lines. Replace the fuel filter.

Change all of the fluids. Oil, coolant, etc.

    Replace the radiator hoses.

    Replace the fan belt(s)

Replace the vacuum lines. Vacuum hose is cheap.

If I remember correctly, this car had an oil bath air filter. Service the air filter.

Replace the points distributor cap, rotor, condenser, plug wires, spark plugs. Check the coil and replace if needed also. Check the vacuum and mechanical advance on the distributor.

Crank the engine with no fuel for a bit to get some fresh oil circulating. Add gas. Now you can try starting it.

You could easily find other problems from a car sitting this long. The fuel pump may no longer work. The transmission may have problems. The differential may have problems. Bearings could be seized. Brakes may be frozen. Cylinder head or engine block could be cracked ice. Brake lines may be corroded. Tires will be rotted. Shocks will need to be replaced. These items will need to be checked and repaired before you attempt to drive this car.

This could be a very cool car with lots of potential.

Have fun.Car sitting 42 years freeup and starting?Cool, but think about all of these things too before you start

    you restoration.

    Sediment in the carbuerater.

    Dried up gaskets and seals.

Rust in the radiator and engine.

Mice eating wiring over all these years.(possibly).

Dried up seals in the braking system.

Now, who's to say you can't put in a new battery , get a little

oil in the top of the engine and pistons, get some coolant in the radiator etc....but what you do before you start firing up a

40 year old car could make a drastic change on it's future..

Just some real quick food for thought..

Watch the electrical system when you first connect your battery...

( Always use safety goggles when experimenting)..Car sitting 42 years freeup and starting?pull out the spark plugs and fill the holes with automatic transmission fluid. let gravity take the trans oil down to the oil pan. Gravity takes time to work so give it a day or two. As you're waiting for that to happen, drain the oil out of the oil pan . change the oil filter. then fill it up with as much oil as you can put in. Use a lightweight oil like a 5w20. this will submerge the crank and bearings and probably fill up the bottom of the cylinders. let that soak. again give it time as in a few days.

after a few days when your ready to break it loose, use a breaker bar on the crankshaft pulley bolt and rotate the engine clockwise only. you should be able to get the crank to turn.

I'm going to guess the needle and seat in the carb will be hung. you'll probably have to take the top off of teh carb to fill the bowl.

obviously you'll have to put gas in it. drain the tank before you do that.

starting it at that point will be a function of putting the plugs back in and priming the engine. then charging a battery and checking the ignition systme

    hope that helps

How much water do i need to add to a toyota previa after iv change the radiator?

iv changed my rad on my toyota previa p reg just need to know how much coolant i need to addHow much water do i need to add to a toyota previa after iv change the radiator?look in your owners manual and it will tell you the capacity of your cooling system so if it says it holds 4 gallons you need to use 2 gallons of antifreeze and 2 gallons of water to get a 50/50 mix.How much water do i need to add to a toyota previa after iv change the radiator?if you have a bottle of antifreeze there is usually a chart on the Label that will tell you the mix ratio you need to use for your climateHow much water do i need to add to a toyota previa after iv change the radiator?mix Ur antifreeze and water half n half- never put full strength- depends on Ur location but a safe mix is half n half! Good luck n have a great day-- TimHow much water do i need to add to a toyota previa after iv change the radiator?most of the time you mix it 50/50. in cars like the rx7 you go 60/40.How much water do i need to add to a toyota previa after iv change the radiator? If you buy the 50/50 % antifreeze/ water mix at the auto parts store, you simply pour it in the radiator and fill it up. If you buy the 100% antifreeze concentration from the auto store, you mix it into another 1 gallon jug with half distilled water (a 50/50 % mix like the one you buy premixed). How much water do i need to add to a toyota previa after iv change the radiator?depends on where one lives but its mostly two gallons of coolant rest waterHow much water do i need to add to a toyota previa after iv change the radiator?I generally buy two gallons of coolant and two gallons of purified water. Never use tap water - the minerals will clog the radiator tubes. If the coolant is available in premix, just buy three gallons of that. Otherwise keep the mixture 50/50 unless the manual says different. You can expect to use an entire gallon of coolant and part of the other.

How do I change my thermostat in my '05 Impala 3.4 V6..I changed the water pump so I need the thermostat info

Hot Coolant Temp light came on. So when I turned the heat on full blast, nothing but cool air came out. If I'm not mistaken that means the thermostat needs to be replaced. She was leaking fluid, but I changed the water pump and that stopped.
