How to change a coolant fan relay on a 2003 jeep grand cherokee?

relay is behind the passenger headlight, the light and grill need to be removed and the bumper, part is only available at a jeep or chrysler dealerHow to change a coolant fan relay on a 2003 jeep grand cherokee? You should look for the relay box in the engine compartment, there could be more than one, take the covers off and look under the cover for the description of each relay, some auto manufacturers put the description on the outside of the cover. All you have to do is look for the fan relay in there, mostly look for something that has to do with fan, you may have low speed and high speed. And the relay is easy to change, take it out by hand. • Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?

I just brought my car in for an oil change and lube service. The place I go to is pretty good about service and repairs in that I can drop my car off in the day, and pick it up in the early evening for service other than oil changes.

    However, I noticed that several times (today included), the mechanic would call and say something like %26quot;We did the oil change, but noticed the other fluids could use a change -- coolant, transmission, power steering.%26quot;

When they say that, are they being good mechanics by watching out to keep the cars they serve in tip-top shape or are they just giving a soft sell to make extra services?

Would love to hear from other customers and if you work(ed) as a mechanic and have any inside knowledge. Thanks.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform? No they don't get commission however most get a flat rate based on the type of service. It doesn't matter how long they spend working on it. They may be jerking your chain however check your owner's manual and see how often it recommends those maintenance items performed. If it says to change your brake fluid every 50k miles, and your shop is telling you to do it at 30, you need to find a new shop. Unless they can show and explain to you why you need it sooner than the manufacturer recommends.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform? They usually charge by the hour for example here in Australia you are looking at about $40.00 an hour then you pay for the parts etc, etcDo auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?it all depends on your mechanic and his character. my husband is a mechanic, runs his own shop, and tops off fluids for free for deserving, loyal customers. otherwise, he calls them, gives them the choice and follows customer's instructions. it pays to be on top of things with your own vehicle...keep a maintenance record of when you last got your fluids checked.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform? The mechanic does not make a commission off of how many repairs they perform. Typically they make a flat rate per hour. At automotive shops they always mention if they notice something that could be done to improve the vehicles performance. They are doing their jobs and being good mechanics by keeping an eye out for potential problems but of course the shop would like your repeat business. They do not want to not tell you about a potential problem or recommended service and have you return 2 weeks later with a transmission problem that could have been prevented by a transmission flush. They are not out to gouge you for services. They aren't trying to sell you anything that you don't need.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?upsell is where the business is. oil changes doesnt involve much labor dollars. Definetely we are after your money but rather honestly, by pointing out what other services you need.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?my dad fixes boats and he charges by the job. overhaul would be like $500-$1200 depending on engine, tune ups are like $120 and when he fixes a boat he doesn't really try to rip people off. he has to make sure everything is working the way it should so that if a problem were to occur he won't get blamed. but for somethings he must charge extra like cleaning the carbs. hope this helps.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform? This is a classic symbiotic circumstance.

YES -- he is calling for the UPSELL. The more he can do for you, the more they (he) gets paid.

Some shops actually pay a flat-rate for these repairs. Others provide a bonus for sales over the original service.

Still others pay a %26quot;profit sharing%26quot; dividend at the end of the month for net profits over base services less expenses.

The other side of this coin is that they LIVE under your hood and car, and they are aware (or SHOULD be) of things about your car that you may or may not be. They are also usually better able to judge the level of need for service.

It is for this reason that you really ought to keep track of the service and repair history of your car, and don't be shy about saying %26quot;No%26quot; if you think (NOT %26quot;feel%26quot;) you are being mistreated.

And, it isn't particularly inappropriate to ask how the techs are compensated. But ask AFTER the bill has been paid, or BEFORE authorizing any services or repair. This will give you a better idea of where the tech is based, and it will be clear to the tech that you are paying attention to him, and he will less likely %26quot;Push%26quot; an upsale for mere greed.

Good LuckDo auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform? Some do and some do not. Or to be more precise. Some only get paid by the amount of work that they do. While others get paid by the hour. Still others get paid by the job that they do.

Say if the going rate is 45.00 per hour for labor, then they would get a percentage of that rate.

But, if you go in for one thing and they say that you need extras done, then yes, they could get a bonus for getting you to 'buy' more. But, if you say no. Then they are to go with your original service. I've gone to two places in the past, where they tried to sell me more than what I was there for.

One place, I went to get a catalytic convertor replaced. They originally gave me a price for a universal type. So, I made the appointment to get this done. Took my vehicle in and they said that it would take 2 hours to do and so I left. But, when I got back, they had already removed my old unit and dropped my car from their lift and parked it in their hold lot. They said that I needed a special unit and that they had to order it and that since they removed my old unit, legally i couldn't drive my car until it was replaced. They told me that it would take a week to get one and they were going to charge me 100.00 per day to store my car on their lot. Well, I told them that I would pay for their time that day and told them to release my car so that I could take it somewhere else to be fixed that day. They refused and told me that I didn't have any choice. Well, what did I do. I made a phone call and a police officer showed up about 10 minutes later. I explained to him what was going on and asked him to arrest all of the people that worked there for extortion and theft. He asked them if they had a universal in stock and they said yes, after he told them that I was going to press charges. It took them 20 minutes to put my car back onto their lift and install that universal. The shop in question was $#@%26amp;$. There, five symbols, you figure it out. Starts with an M. And this was in Indiana where they don't have smog laws.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?as ex sales man at firestone i can tell you and theother guys did its jus a upsell technique this time of year the brake fluid and coolant important as for belt check, goto firestone web site or other auto web and learn about some schedule maintenance, also ask them to show you your fluids ask to go out to your car to show you, check your tires for nails tooDo auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?I have worked at several shops. I refuse to work at flat rate. I feel this is nothing more than a money grab. For several years, I've worked overtime for nothing, giving up my Saturdays, put up with all kinds of ******** from car owners and shop owners alike. Happy customers come back, ones that have been told they need all kinds of unnecessary work don't.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?Mechanic pay is sort of like a commisson. The way flat rate works is that the mechanic gets paid by what he does. Lets say that the mechanic works for $40 an hour. Then he gets a car that needs a new alternator. He then goes to the flat-rate book or some reference that tells him how long this job %26quot;should%26quot; tqake. No matter how long the job takes him he gets paid for the time stated. So if it takes him a half hour but the book said it should take an hour then he still gets $40, however if it takes him 2 hours then he still gets $40. Dending on the job and shop he may get a half hour pay for diagnostics.

One more thing is that a mechanic should never do anything to your car that you do not agree to prior to it being done, if they do the work and you didnt approve it then they cannot charge for it. However they will suggest extras when work is slow because more work means more pay.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?I see you got an idea of how most mechanics are paid...

But some fluids are recommended by the factory to be changed at certain times (such as the transmission and coolant) while others aren't but can help in the life of the car possibly (power steering)

Some of it is upsell like the power steering, the others like the coolant and transmission, are required maintaince.. best thing is to go by the manufacturers service schedule and you won't have any problems

Honda Shadow Sabre 1100.......How do I change the coolant?

There appears to be an air bubble in the coolant system preventing it from being topped off. Tried running it, and %26quot;blipping%26quot; the throttle, but I can't get the bubbles out. How else can I get the bubbles out??? Please only serious answers. Thanks! =DHonda Shadow Sabre 1100.......How do I change the coolant?I have had a similar experience with my Mean Streak after changing coolant. All I can suggest; is that if you have no symptom of a problem (ie running hot, coolant loss, etc), do not worry about it. Otherwise, top the rad up as much as possible, squeeze the radiator hose by hand to force the air out (it will push some coolant out, but this doesn't matter) When you release the hose, it will fill with coolant and suck the level down so you can top it up again. Go ride and double check later with cold engine. Good luck!

Rover 200 1999 reg coolant change?

hi can anyone tell me what's the difference between antifreeze and coolant and how to flush the coolant reservoir to change it also whats best for the rover 200 1999 thanksRover 200 1999 reg coolant change?Theirs no difference. If your going to flush it,I suggest the way my Dad told me.Just open the drain valve a little bit then place a hose in the radiator running at just the right pace as its draining.Start the engine and let it idle. Its important that you only run it in and out very slowly.if the cold water hits to fast it can cause engine damage. But if this process is done correctly it will flush the system better than any other way.I would stay away from replacing it with the old green coolant. It contains a higher concentration of acid and can wear out water pumps radiators and anything pertaining to the coolant system. They have a new type that looks red to rusty colored that's non toxic and works much better on today's cars.Rover 200 1999 reg coolant change? As far as I'm aware they are one and the same - just given different names.

I own a Rover 214 (1999 too!), and have only ever topped up the coolant. I use any brand from Halfords and also a pre-mixed one from Wilkinsons which I keep in the boot just incase (we all know what Rovers are like!).

Not fully answering your question I know - sorry!Rover 200 1999 reg coolant change?my advise is don`t mess with rover engines, the head gasket`s are very weak on this type of rover and flushing will cause you problems, leave well enough alone,

  • Peugeot 106: Anti-Freeze and Coolant Change! Please help!?

    Hello everyone,

Could somebody give me a guide how to change the anti-freeze and coolant please?

I have checked the levels are there seems to be nothing in the radiator/ reserve. I have been to Halfords and bought a bottle that says its suitable for older car manufactured after 1998 and that it is compatible with all vehicle manufactures?colours of OAT coolants.

Here is the one I have bought http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/store

But mine has different graphics and does not say summer on mine!

So if you have a guide of how to change it that would be fantastic as I do not want to pay the local garage 45.00 just to change it!

Many thanks to all who help!

Ben.Peugeot 106: Anti-Freeze and Coolant Change! Please help!?Hello Benjamin. I see that you have %26quot;connected%26quot; to me on Yahoo answers. No problem.

The bottle you bought is only one liter. It is good for %26quot;topping up%26quot; the coolant, not replacing it. I think you should buy 5 liters to replace all the coolant. The price should be closer to 10 pounds for 5 liters. (in Belgium, 8-10 euros for 5 liters)

First, let me address the fact that you.. 'have nothing in the radiator/reserve'. This could mean that you :

    1. have a leak in a hose somewhere. Cooloant leaks on the ground as you drive.

    2. have a break in your head gasket = serious. water is forced into the exhaust gases, and leaves the exhaust pipe as white steam.

    3. Your radiator cap has lost the ability to hold pressure in the system, and allows the water to boil away.

    Changing your coolant.

    1. Realize that you can only change about 80% of your coolant. some of it will lie inside the engine block. (unless you want to remove the engine block drain plug, front left-hand side of the TU series engine block. 18mm hex bolt)

    2. Open your metal radiator cap. Don't waste efforts by loosening radiator hoses, this will not help, and creates more work.

    3. Open the valve at the bottom of your radiator, found straight below the radiator cap. It could be very tight: use a small pair of pliers to open the plastic knob. Collect the radiator fluid in a shallow bucket, it is harmful to grass, and the environment. Dispose of all coolant correctly.

    4. Raise your plastic coolant reservoir up in the air a few inches, so it drains too. When empty, put it back in its place.

    5. Examine the coolant. Do you see an oily film on it? Do you see mayonaise? (oil and water mixed?) Do you see whitish-mayonaise on your radiator cap? on the dipstick? in the coolant reservoir? YES? this could mean you have the head gasket problem from #2 above.

NO? good. Now you should have about 4 liters in your shallow bucket.

    6. CLOSE the lower valve tightly. Not gorilla tight, just snuggy tight.

    7. Add new coolant to your opened radiator cap, until it reaches the top. Squeeze the big hoses with your hand to %26quot;bounce%26quot; the water and get some air bubbles out. Don't close the metal cap yet..

    8. Add coolant to your reservoir, up to the mark called %26quot;maximum level%26quot;.

    9. Have you added about 3 liters? good. Start the engine. Put your heater on %26quot;high%26quot;. Let your engine get hot. The thermostat should now open. See the water circulate below the radiator cap? Add some more coolant. Hopoefully all trapped air will escape when the wter is circulating.

HOWEVER...there are %26quot;air bleeder%26quot; places on your engine. They are found high up on the cooling system.

On the TU engines (106, 205, 306) there is one air bleeder opening above the thermostat housing. PHOTO here:

    http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh155

    10. Check your coolant level again, After the engine cools down. Check it again tomorrow. The reservoir bottle should reamin constant between min and max levels. You should have good heat from your heater.

    good luck.
