How to change transmission and coolant fluids on a Dodge Neon?

We called a place for pricing on these two, the tran was $250 and the coolant was $90 to change. That seems rather pricey!

Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to do it?How to change transmission and coolant fluids on a Dodge Neon?there are websites tht explain everything.

As far as the transmission is concerned you have to consult your owners manual to be absolutely sure you use the correct type of trans fluid. Using the wrong type will definitely cause problems.

Thats the problem with shops that do the work,,,,they often put in the wrong fluid,,,,and the trans goes kaput. That includes the dealers also.

How to change the coolant?

I want to replace the coolant and am not sure how to empty the radiator. I need to do this first prior to adding the new coolant. I have a chrysler 2002, 300MHow to change the coolant?First make sure the engine is cool and the system is not pressurized. Safety is always the first step.

There is a drain plug on the bottom of the radiator somewhere, usually on the right. With the radiator cap still on, open this and drain the coolant into a container. Please keep this container in a place animals cant get to. They are attracted to the sweet smell of ethylene glycol and will drink it and die.The coolant recovery bottle should empty first. Once this is empty, remove the radiator cap and let the remaining fluid drain. Refill with 50/50 mix of new antifreeze.

This will do fine in many situations, but i always do a complete flush on my vehicles.

Some people say to get a bottle of cooling system flush, but in my opinion it isn't needed unless your car has 100,000 miles or more, or you have circulation problems, which could be indicated by temperature being higher than normal, but not enough to be considered overheating.

To do a complete flush, follow the above instructions, then fill the radiator with water.let the engine run for a few minutes with the heater control on high.shut of the engine, and drain the radiator again.repeat this process until only clean water comes out. Refill with 50/50 mix of antifreeze.(the green stuff, the other types are worthless)

If you do choose to use the cooling system flush, there should be instructions on the bottle, and i recommend the brand Zenex. Beware, though, your skin will get irritated it if it gets on it. And be sure to dispose of the old coolant properly. How to change the coolant? On the bottom of the radiator is a drain, open it into a container. Drain fully, refill, and dispose of coolant to a parts store or recycler. How to change the coolant?normally on the drivers side bottom part of the radiator. But always on the bottom of the radiator due to this is the lowest point in the system which all the Fluid can run out

Coolant change?

just drained radiator on 98 ford contour v6, radiator only took 1 gallon, needed 2, do i have air trapped in system, how to purge?Coolant change?make sure your t-stat isnt stuck closed. if its good:

Fill coolant reservoir to MAX mark with 50/50 water-coolant mixture. Loosen bleed bolt and fill radiator up to base of filler neck. Close bleed bolt when coolant flows out without bubbles. Tighten bleed bolt. With radiator cap removed, start and operate engine to normal operating temperature. Add coolant if necessary and check for leaks.Coolant change? You drained the radiator, not the whole system. The only way to exchange ALL the coolant is a power flush. You still want to burp the system, as all PP said, but don't expect it to take a whole lot more. You can look to see if that model has a bleeder screw on the thermostat housing, or run it and allow the air to collect in the radiator, then top it off. Either way, you should check the coolant after your first real trip to be sure no air bubbles were loosed from the motor.Coolant change?crank and let it run with cap off watch the flow rasie and lower might have to put cap on a few times and check til it gets warm enough to open thermostat... takes 30 minute or longer sometimes to get them fullCoolant change?start the engine, with the cap off, wait for thermostat to open, and continue filling

  • Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?

I just brought my car in for an oil change and lube service. The place I go to is pretty good about service and repairs in that I can drop my car off in the day, and pick it up in the early evening for service other than oil changes.

    However, I noticed that several times (today included), the mechanic would call and say something like %26quot;We did the oil change, but noticed the other fluids could use a change -- coolant, transmission, power steering.%26quot;

When they say that, are they being good mechanics by watching out to keep the cars they serve in tip-top shape or are they just giving a soft sell to make extra services?

Would love to hear from other customers and if you work(ed) as a mechanic and have any inside knowledge. Thanks.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform? No they don't get commission however most get a flat rate based on the type of service. It doesn't matter how long they spend working on it. They may be jerking your chain however check your owner's manual and see how often it recommends those maintenance items performed. If it says to change your brake fluid every 50k miles, and your shop is telling you to do it at 30, you need to find a new shop. Unless they can show and explain to you why you need it sooner than the manufacturer recommends.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform? They usually charge by the hour for example here in Australia you are looking at about $40.00 an hour then you pay for the parts etc, etcDo auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?it all depends on your mechanic and his character. my husband is a mechanic, runs his own shop, and tops off fluids for free for deserving, loyal customers. otherwise, he calls them, gives them the choice and follows customer's instructions. it pays to be on top of things with your own vehicle...keep a maintenance record of when you last got your fluids checked.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform? The mechanic does not make a commission off of how many repairs they perform. Typically they make a flat rate per hour. At automotive shops they always mention if they notice something that could be done to improve the vehicles performance. They are doing their jobs and being good mechanics by keeping an eye out for potential problems but of course the shop would like your repeat business. They do not want to not tell you about a potential problem or recommended service and have you return 2 weeks later with a transmission problem that could have been prevented by a transmission flush. They are not out to gouge you for services. They aren't trying to sell you anything that you don't need.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?upsell is where the business is. oil changes doesnt involve much labor dollars. Definetely we are after your money but rather honestly, by pointing out what other services you need.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?my dad fixes boats and he charges by the job. overhaul would be like $500-$1200 depending on engine, tune ups are like $120 and when he fixes a boat he doesn't really try to rip people off. he has to make sure everything is working the way it should so that if a problem were to occur he won't get blamed. but for somethings he must charge extra like cleaning the carbs. hope this helps.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform? This is a classic symbiotic circumstance.

YES -- he is calling for the UPSELL. The more he can do for you, the more they (he) gets paid.

Some shops actually pay a flat-rate for these repairs. Others provide a bonus for sales over the original service.

Still others pay a %26quot;profit sharing%26quot; dividend at the end of the month for net profits over base services less expenses.

The other side of this coin is that they LIVE under your hood and car, and they are aware (or SHOULD be) of things about your car that you may or may not be. They are also usually better able to judge the level of need for service.

It is for this reason that you really ought to keep track of the service and repair history of your car, and don't be shy about saying %26quot;No%26quot; if you think (NOT %26quot;feel%26quot;) you are being mistreated.

And, it isn't particularly inappropriate to ask how the techs are compensated. But ask AFTER the bill has been paid, or BEFORE authorizing any services or repair. This will give you a better idea of where the tech is based, and it will be clear to the tech that you are paying attention to him, and he will less likely %26quot;Push%26quot; an upsale for mere greed.

Good LuckDo auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform? Some do and some do not. Or to be more precise. Some only get paid by the amount of work that they do. While others get paid by the hour. Still others get paid by the job that they do.

Say if the going rate is 45.00 per hour for labor, then they would get a percentage of that rate.

But, if you go in for one thing and they say that you need extras done, then yes, they could get a bonus for getting you to 'buy' more. But, if you say no. Then they are to go with your original service. I've gone to two places in the past, where they tried to sell me more than what I was there for.

One place, I went to get a catalytic convertor replaced. They originally gave me a price for a universal type. So, I made the appointment to get this done. Took my vehicle in and they said that it would take 2 hours to do and so I left. But, when I got back, they had already removed my old unit and dropped my car from their lift and parked it in their hold lot. They said that I needed a special unit and that they had to order it and that since they removed my old unit, legally i couldn't drive my car until it was replaced. They told me that it would take a week to get one and they were going to charge me 100.00 per day to store my car on their lot. Well, I told them that I would pay for their time that day and told them to release my car so that I could take it somewhere else to be fixed that day. They refused and told me that I didn't have any choice. Well, what did I do. I made a phone call and a police officer showed up about 10 minutes later. I explained to him what was going on and asked him to arrest all of the people that worked there for extortion and theft. He asked them if they had a universal in stock and they said yes, after he told them that I was going to press charges. It took them 20 minutes to put my car back onto their lift and install that universal. The shop in question was $#@%26amp;$. There, five symbols, you figure it out. Starts with an M. And this was in Indiana where they don't have smog laws.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?as ex sales man at firestone i can tell you and theother guys did its jus a upsell technique this time of year the brake fluid and coolant important as for belt check, goto firestone web site or other auto web and learn about some schedule maintenance, also ask them to show you your fluids ask to go out to your car to show you, check your tires for nails tooDo auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?I have worked at several shops. I refuse to work at flat rate. I feel this is nothing more than a money grab. For several years, I've worked overtime for nothing, giving up my Saturdays, put up with all kinds of ******** from car owners and shop owners alike. Happy customers come back, ones that have been told they need all kinds of unnecessary work don't.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?Mechanic pay is sort of like a commisson. The way flat rate works is that the mechanic gets paid by what he does. Lets say that the mechanic works for $40 an hour. Then he gets a car that needs a new alternator. He then goes to the flat-rate book or some reference that tells him how long this job %26quot;should%26quot; tqake. No matter how long the job takes him he gets paid for the time stated. So if it takes him a half hour but the book said it should take an hour then he still gets $40, however if it takes him 2 hours then he still gets $40. Dending on the job and shop he may get a half hour pay for diagnostics.

One more thing is that a mechanic should never do anything to your car that you do not agree to prior to it being done, if they do the work and you didnt approve it then they cannot charge for it. However they will suggest extras when work is slow because more work means more pay.Do auto mechanics get paid by commission on how many auto services they perform?I see you got an idea of how most mechanics are paid...

But some fluids are recommended by the factory to be changed at certain times (such as the transmission and coolant) while others aren't but can help in the life of the car possibly (power steering)

Some of it is upsell like the power steering, the others like the coolant and transmission, are required maintaince.. best thing is to go by the manufacturers service schedule and you won't have any problems
