How much to fix coolant leak?

ok so i have a 2005 mazda 3 and when i got my oil changed they said i have a coolant leak...they didn't say where the leak was, but they just did the standard point inspection...i don't see anything leaking from my car and it's not getting hot so i don't think it's a huge leak...about how much do you think it might cost to fix?How much to fix coolant leak? The total cost of repair depends where the leak originates from. It could be the water-pump weep-hole on the botton of the input shaft housing. It could ba a loose clamp or a hose. Maybe the radiator itself leaking. Possibly the heater core is leaking. Hopefully you don't have a head gasket problem.

In any event, take your car to a dealership and request they do an inexpensive *cooling system pressure test which will expose the leak. You can't fix or price it till you know positively where the coolant loss is coming from. How much to fix coolant leak?if it is a head gasket, expensive but if it is a hose, very cheap. They will have to identify it but sometimes it is just residue so make sure you arent being had!!How much to fix coolant leak?that depends courtney ! it depends on where the leak is at and what has to be replaced to stop it.How much to fix coolant leak?Well, try pulling your oil dipstick. If that is a white brown color, you have coolant in your oil, and that is a head gasket, cracked block or cylinder head. If not, it's probably a pinhole in one of your hoses. That is simply figuring our which hose and replacing it. It could be a water pump gasket (unlikely if it's a 2005 with low miles), thermostat gasket (also unlikely), the reservoir overflow tank could have a small crack in it, one of those hoses could have a pinhole leak, that cap gasket may be faulty, your main radiator cap (if it has one) could be faulty. Those are about all I can think of. If hoses or overflow tank, they can be fixed reasonably cheap if you know someone to do it. The thermostat or water pump could require taking it to a shop, and be a hefty bill.

Good Luck. How much to fix coolant leak?Any coolant leak is very important.

But it could be trivial to fix.

As simple as tightening a clamp.

First check the coolant level when cold. Make sure it is topped up, and has good expansion reservoir.

Then get it hot.

Leaks will be visible when under most pressure.

Try reving the engine.

Look at the bottom of the water pump, since that has a weep hole for when the seal starts to go.

If the water pump has no weep hole, turn the engine off, take the belt off the water pump, and chech for loose bearing.

If that does not show anything, and you don't seem to be low on coolant, you could just assume they could be wrong and give it time.

Or you could rent/borrown a pressure tester that replaces the radiator cap.

You can pump it up above normal pressure, to make leaks more apparant. But don't over do it.How much to fix coolant leak?Depends on where it is leaking. It could be a crack in the block of the motor, which would be alot to fix, or i could be a hose which won't cost much to fix. Take it to a local Mechanic with a good reputation and see what they say.
