How do I know if i need to change my piston rings?

It looks like my coolant has oil in it, it is a rusty color... White smoke also comes out of my exhaust. .... Are these signs of bad piston rings? If so how would u change them on a 97 3.8l camaro? And about how long would it take one person to change them? How do I know if i need to change my piston rings?Sounds more like a bad head gasket. Worn piston rings would not cause the oil to mix with the coolant and the smoke would be blue.

The amount of time it would take to change them would vary a lot based on your skills and tools available. It is a lot of work. How do I know if i need to change my piston rings?you would have to take the whole block apart, it could also be your valves. most likely to get and engine rebuilt thats over $1000How do I know if i need to change my piston rings?head gasketsHow do I know if i need to change my piston rings?Sounds like your valves are shot, not your piston rings. How do I know if i need to change my piston rings?1st, changing rings requires dis-assembly of the whole engine. It's crazy to tear down an engine and replace only the rings.

2nd, like others said, it sounds like your problem isn't rings, but expensive repairs are in order.

3rd, do not attempt major repairs by yourself if you don't know what you're doing. It can end up costing you a LOT more money in the end.How do I know if i need to change my piston rings? It's not rings. Rings leaks compression and oil

Theres no coolant in the chambers to leak into the oil through rings.

Sounds more like a blown/leaking intake gasket or head gasket.. Also a cracked intake, head or block would do the same
